In 1904 the cornerstone was laid for the construction of this building and by 1907 the building was complete. Inspired by two Oxford theatres, this domed rotunda was designed by Pearson and Darling. Convocation halls' main function, as it's name would suggest, is to hold convocation ceremonies. It also serves as a venue for large social and academic functions throughout the year. Over the years the building has acquired additions and alterations. In 2006 a major restoration was completed in time for its centennial birthday.
Crightonism: I'm very proud of my image of Convocation Hall which is a truly monumental structure and the most significant symbol of the purpose of this venerable educational institution. Here's where the students journey ends and the life of a professional begins. Truly a "Hallowed Hall" this edifice is the anchor of "King's College Circle" a panorama of stately architecture which is adored by students and generations of alumnae.
Convocation Hall has also had its fair share of star attention. In 1974 Bob Marley and the Wailers performed. It has also been featured in the movie "Mean Girls", and the pilot episode of the TV show "Fringe"
