Just one standout in the “city of neighbourhoods”

Kensington Avenue, Toronto*

In the more than 180 years since the naming of the city of Toronto, as natural expansion has taken place into today’s proud position as the most populated metropolitan area in the country, distinctive neighbourhoods and districts have steadfastly remained an essential part of the make-up of this great modern city.

This is certainly true of the neighbourhoods which make up the 14th Division. These stretch from Christie-Ossington and Annex, through Palmerston-Little Italy, Trinity-Bellwoods and Kensington-Chinatown, and down to South Parkdale and Waterfront.

Within this collection of 14th Division environments, often affectionately termed “Old Toronto” there are, as you’d expect, many examples of stunning and memorable architecture. Celebrated Canadian artist David Crighton, noted for his stunning and cool digital art pictures, landscape art and painting, and much more, has captured the true essence of many historical landmarks, remarkable buildings, and notable locations within this area.

Lakeshore West, Toronto

A terrific sense of neighbourhood is highlighted in David’s area collages such as this one for Lakeshore West. Here, he constructs a collection of the notable storefronts into a seamless whole, giving a terrific sense of that community. Another stunning example is this glorious celebration of Chinatown on Spadina Avenue. Incidentally, as with all other such pieces, David regularly updates them to add new landmarks and other major changes!

Chinatown, Toronto

Almost a decade ago, one of Toronto’s best-known and older neighbourhoods – Kensington Market – was deservedly designated as a National Historic Site of Canada. A few years earlier, celebrated city resident Robert Fulford had described it thus: “As much a legend as a district”. While a myriad of tourists have taken a multitude of photos of this iconic location, David’s vibrant and stunning impression truly catches the unique mood and lifestyle of the place.

Many famous individual locations are also widely featured in David’s captivating wall art ideas. Among these would surely be Sneaky Dee’s bar, a restaurant and iconic music venue  at the intersection of College and Bathurst. Then there’s El Mocambo Tavern  which will hold memories for so many. A celebrated music venue since the 1940s; were you one of the lucky ones who saw the Rolling Stones there back in 1977?

The ElMocambo

Just one more example of the many parts of the 14th Division uniquely captured by artist David Crighton. This time it’s the neighbourhood known as The Annex  and, as an individual location within it, the century old bank building which became the three floors of the Paupers Pub.

These are no more than a few of the so many superb wall art ideas created by Canadian artist David Crighton. Incidentally, if you can’t locate specific Toronto art featuring historical landmarks, neighbourhoods, buildings, schools or other education establishment that has special memories for you or someone in your life, do call 416-414-6423. David is always eager to expand his collection and also to undertake specific commissions. Each piece of Canadian art you see on his website can also be personalised to create that unique piece of memorable and treasured art as a lifestyle gift.
