Parapan Am Games Approach
The Pan Am Games in Toronto were a great success and showed a great display of sportsmanship as well as athletic achievement and ability! Now, the Parapan Am Games are quickly approaching and TO2015 announced that they will be adding an extra day to the games in order to celebrate the athletic achievement of some of the world’s best para-athletes.
The Parapan Am Games in Toronto will be the fifth edition of the Games and will host a total of 1,608 athletes from 28 countries competing in 15 sporting events. All of these events will be qualifiers for the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio. It will be an exciting time, and one in which you can hold the memory of the moments with a poster, gift card, and prints of your favorite venues, location, or city-scape from David Crighton Art.
The history of the Paralympic Movement has spanned over 100 years. However, it wasn’t until after World War II that sports for athletes with disabilities were widely introduced as a means of rehabilitation of veterans and civilians who were injured during wartime. The first Paralympic Games took place in Rome, Italy in 1960 and featured 400 athletes from 23 countries competing in 8 sporting events. Since that time, the Paralympic Games have been held every four years.
The closing ceremonies, with the added day, will be August 15, 2015. This allows for more exposure of the Games and accessibility for all of the para-athletes to attend the Parapan Am Games Closing Ceremonies.
