Redeemer Church, Toronto by Illustrator Artist David Crighton Art

    $125.00

The Church of the Redeemeris an Anglican church in Toronto, Canada. The small church is prominently located at the intersection of Bloor Street and Avenue Road.ï됉?? It was founded in 1871 when the area was still on the fringe of the city. As with many other downtown churches the Church of the Redeemer suffered from falling attendance in the late twentieth century. The church ran into severe financial difficulties and in 1979 the parish voluntarily disestablished itself and was taken over by theï됉?? Anglican Diocese of Toronto. The church lands were sold to developers and the massive?äï_?¥?‹ Four Seasons Renaissance Centre was built on them. With the money from this deal the church was again solvent and regained its independence. The money also paid for much needed renovations. In 2000 the church launched a major renovation project as extra meeting space and offices were constructed under the building.

    _x000D_

The church is known for its progressive stance on social issues, especiallygay rights. Noted by passersby for its prominent sign, often featuring a quotation or thought for meditation. The church is also known to host a range of musical events and concerts. For example, Canadian group Great Lake Swimmers?äï_?¥?‹ played two shows at the Church of the Redeemer on April 14, 2007.

    _x000D_

Crightonism: I like the fact that this is an Anglican Church as my father was a minister of that faith. Furthermore, I like the juxtaposition of the "Old-Gothic" set against the "Modern-Condominium" architectural styles. This gives my illustration various perspectives.

El Mocambo Tavern, Toronto by David Crighton

    $125.00

The Facts: The El Mocambo was opened as a music venue in 1850. The building was first used as a haven for escaped slaves. The name and famous El Mocambo palm tree sign were constructed in 1946. It was one of the first establishments in Toronto to obtain a liquor licence. Musical acts appeared on separate stages located on the main and second floor of the building.

The News: Recently, the iconic El Mocambo was for sale and it seemed as though another famous landmark establishment on the Toronto scene was gong to vanish until the last minute bid by Canadian entrepreneur Michael Werkele not only rescued the El Mo but promised to restore it to the glory days of past years!

Crightonism: About the second time I saw a musical performance at the "Elmo" it was a good one- March 1977 the band was the Rolling Stones. I won two tickets on CHUM FM Radio. I did this drawing shortly thereafter and returned to the club many times bringing a print to give to the performer with their name added to the marquee.

Beginning at an early age, David Crighton's fascination with art and architecture developed into a career which combines them both. Since graduating from Central Technical School in 1974 David Crighton has been recording the architectural diversity of Toronto & Southern Ontario with his distinctive style.

    ï_

Consequently you can explore the extensive and ever expanding catalogue of images on this website. Pen and ink drawings with the addition of bright acrylic paint are the basic ingredients of David's art-making techniques. In addition to that, he utilizes computer software to enhance the final version of each print in ways too subtle to be done even by his well practiced hand. Many more Canadian and International subjects are in various stages of completion at David's busy Toronto studio. In addition to art-making David is an ï_accomplished and entertaining musician who performs cover songs from the 1960's to contemporary composers. Every day is a combination of his two favorite arts for which he is truly grateful.

Senator Jazz Bar, Toronto by David Crighton

    $140.00

    Senator.
I had previously done my illustration of Sam the Record Man and his son happened to own the Senator so he got the bright idea that I should do a painting of his club. I particularly enjoyed adding that mural into the artwork and it hung in the restaurant downstairs for years where I saw it and mentioned it to the waiters who always said people liked my take on whole subject. Great room upstairs and the steak was superb and music classic jazz.

Waterbased inks cure into the substrate and unite with the garment lending to its softness. The weight of the ink evaporates and the colour remains bold on any coloured garment.
Our oxo-degradable bags are a revolutionary solution to your plastic bag needs. For your use, the bags are strong and sturdy, but when thrown away, they soon begin the process of disintegration and eventually bio-assimilate just like a leaf would. About David

Beginning at an early age, David Crighton's fascination with art and architecture developed into a career which combines them both. Since graduating from Central Technical School in 1974 David Crighton has been recording the architectural diversity of Toronto & Southern Ontario with his distinctive style.

In addition to art-making David is an accomplished and entertaining musician who performs cover songs from the 1960's to contemporary composers. Every day is a combination of his two favorite arts for which he is truly grateful.

David can personalize your housewarming, birthday, anniversary, wedding, Christmas gift or souvenir or your visit to Toronto upon request.

Flatiron #1, Toronto by David Crighton

    $150.00

THE FACTS: The red-brick Gooderham Building is a historic landmark of Toronto, Ontario, Canada located at 49 Wellington Street East. On the eastern edge of the city's Financial District (east of Yonge Street), it is in the St. Lawrence neighbourhood wedged between Front Street and Wellington Street, where they join up to form a triangular intersection. Completed in 1892, it was an early example of a prominent flatiron building.

The Gooderham Building is the focal point of one of Toronto's most iconic vistas: looking west down Front Street towards the building's prominent rounded corner, framed on the sides by the heritage commercial blocks along Front Street, and with the skyscrapers of the Financial District towering in the background. The CN Tower is also visible from certain angles behind Brookfield Place. This vista frequently appears in imagery of the city.

Crightonism: The Gooderham Building also known as "The Flatiron" is without a doubt my favourite Toronto subject. Over my career I have created more artistic versions of this iconic landmark and it's developing surroundings than I can recall. Regardless of the activity around it, this unique piece of architecture dating from 1910 stands resolute on it's triangle of ground. The image you see here is the version that I think captures the essence of "My Toronto" - The Old, The New and The Futuristic
