Skyline of Toronto by David Crighton

    $150.00

David Crighton has created a lovely view of a classic Toronto Skyline as views from Toronto Island  - a skyline that existed before the condominium boom that has hit our city. David Crightons art captures the beautiful city of Toronto at it's finest and most romantic. He can customize it to add in buildings that you desire - maybe make your condo more prominent?

David can personalize your housewarming, birthday, anniversary, wedding, Christmas gift or souvenir or your visit to Toronto upon request. Charge between $25.

"Crightonism": This is my best shot at representing my home town. It was created before a LOT more condominiums were constructed which today obscure these iconic Toronto buildings. I very much like the view which includes the recreational aspects of the islands with the business side of my city. Best of both worlds :)

Crightonism: The Gooderham Building also known as "The Flatiron" is without a doubt my favourite Toronto subject. Over my career I have created more artistic versions of this iconic landmark and it's developing surroundings than I can recall. Regardless of the activity around it, this unique piece of architecture dating from 1910 stands resolute on it's triangle of ground. The image you see here is the version that I think captures the essence of "My Toronto" - The Old, The New and The Futuristic !

The Sam the Record Man flagship store was opened in 1961 by Sam Sniderman at 347 Yonge Street, Toronto, Canada. It was the second Sam's store to be on Yonge Street, as its precursor store was at 219 Yonge Street from 1959, until the 347 location opened in late 1961.[1]åÊ

Redeemer Church, Toronto by Illustrator Artist David Crighton Art

    $125.00

The Church of the Redeemeris an Anglican church in Toronto, Canada. The small church is prominently located at the intersection of Bloor Street and Avenue Road.®Õ?? It was founded in 1871 when the area was still on the fringe of the city. As with many other downtown churches the Church of the Redeemer suffered from falling attendance in the late twentieth century. The church ran into severe financial difficulties and in 1979 the parish voluntarily disestablished itself and was taken over by the®Õ?? Anglican Diocese of Toronto. The church lands were sold to developers and the massiveå¦ÌÀ Four Seasons Renaissance Centre was built on them. With the money from this deal the church was again solvent and regained its independence. The money also paid for much needed renovations. In 2000 the church launched a major renovation project as extra meeting space and offices were constructed under the building.

The church is known for its progressive stance on social issues, especiallygay rights. Noted by passersby for its prominent sign, often featuring a quotation or thought for meditation. The church is also known to host a range of musical events and concerts. For example, Canadian group Great Lake Swimmerså¦ÌÀ played two shows at the Church of the Redeemer on April 14, 2007.

Crightonism: I like the fact that this is an Anglican Church as my father was a minister of that faith. Furthermore, I like the juxtaposition of the "Old-Gothic" set against the "Modern-Condominium" architectural styles. This gives my illustration various perspectives.

Crightonism: About the second time I saw a musical performance at the "Elmo" it was a good one- March 1977 the band was the Rolling Stones. I won two tickets on CHUM FM Radio. Bloor West Village #2, Toronto by David Crighton

    $150.00

Canadian Illustrator and Artist, David Crighton, is widely known for his collages of popular Toronto neighbourhoods. Continuing to update versions of the Bloor West piece, David will add new landmarks and popular attractions as the neighbourhood changes. He can personalize and customize your neighbourhood by adding in your favourite stores or the places your family patronizes or that make your neighbourhood unique to you!

This artwork depicts various popular storefronts situated along Bloor West in the West-end of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Crightonism: These "Neighbourhood" images are actually collages of the highlights of the various communities. In each illustration the most interesting shops are all in the vicinity but not necessarily located next door to each other in reality. I seem to have a knack for making things fit together in a pleasing manner. Bloor West Village #1 was the first of it's kind in this series.

  • Botany Building, University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada by Artist illustrator David Crighton Art

The Botany Building has been moved to Allan Gardens.

Beginning at an early age, David Crighton's fascination with art and architecture developed into a career which combines them both. Since graduating from Central Technical School in 1974 David Crighton has been recording the architectural diversity of Toronto & Southern Ontario with his distinctive style.

Consequently you can explore the extensive and ever expanding catalogue of images on this website. Pen and ink drawings with the addition of bright acrylic paint are the basic ingredients of David's art-making techniques. In addition to that, he utilizes computer software to enhance the final version of each print in ways too subtle to be done even by his well practiced hand. Many more Canadian and International subjects are in various stages of completion at David's busy Toronto studio. In addition to art-making David is an  accomplished and entertaining musician who performs cover songs from the 1960's to contemporary composers. Every day is a combination of his two favorite arts for which he is truly grateful.

David can personalize your housewarming, birthday, anniversary, wedding, Christmas gift or souvenir or your visit to Toronto upon request.

City TV Building #1 in Toronto by David Crighton

    $125.00

If you're over 45 and lived in Toronto, you'll remember "Baby Blue Movies" and "CITY TV" the brain child of Moses Znaimer. Famous landmark and historic buildings are David Crighton's stock in trade. åÊHe has created an archive of beautifully detailed illustrations capturing all the phases of CITY TV - Toronto.

This is the original location of CITY TV at 99 Queen St. E. is where Much Music started with VJ's J.D. Roberts, Laurie Brown, Daniel Riechler and Denise Donlon.

    Testimonial:Ìâ

"I used to work at CityTV, back in the day, and one of my colleagues, a cameraman ..., was talking about these prints -- how they used to give them out for 10 years service. I didn't make 10 years -- was only there for 8, and now with Moses gone and a couple of corporate takeovers the place is very different. So I was moved to try to buy that print. And then on the site of course I fell in love with my mis-spent youth on the Kingsway, and the late lamented Sam's (the Record Man) sign.
so that's the story. I imagine you've heard many like it.
    Denis McGrath, Cameraman"

The Goof Garden Gate, Toronto by David Crighton

    $125.00

Located in "The Beach" area of eastern Toronto this restaurant has been a favorite hang-out for thousands of kids many of whom attended Malvern Collegiate. At one point the neon sign lost power to two letters and the result read "GOO-FOO" which got shortened again verbally to "GOOF". The Fox Cinema across Queen Street East was and is still an attraction. Dinner at the Goof and a movie at the Fox equals a good night out in the Beach.

Crightonism: I've done the Goof-Fox night-out a few times myself and always enjoyed seeing my artwork on the menu too. It's been a while so I'm not sure it's still on the cover... I hope so :)
