Crightonism: The Gooderham Building also known as "The Flatiron" is without a doubt my favourite Toronto subject. Over my career I have created more artistic versions of this iconic landmark and it's developing surroundings than I can recall. Regardless of the activity around it, this unique piece of architecture dating from 1910 stands resolute on it's triangle of ground. The image you see here is the version that I think captures the essence of "My Toronto" - The Old, The New and The Futuristic !

Flatiron #1, Toronto by David Crighton

    $45.00

THE FACTS: The red-brick Gooderham Building is a historic landmark of Toronto, Ontario, Canada located at 49 Wellington Street East. On the eastern edge of the city's Financial District (east of Yonge Street), it is in the St. Lawrence neighbourhood wedged between Front Street and Wellington Street, where they join up to form a triangular intersection. Completed in 1892, it was an early example of a prominent flatiron building.

The Gooderham Building is the focal point of one of Toronto's most iconic vistas: looking west down Front Street towards the building's prominent rounded corner, framed on the sides by the heritage commercial blocks along Front Street, and with the skyscrapers of the Financial District towering in the background. The CN Tower is also visible from certain angles behind Brookfield Place. This vista frequently appears in imagery of the city.

Over my career I have created more artistic versions of this iconic landmark and it's developing surroundings than I can recall. Regardless of the activity around it, this unique piece of architecture dating from 1910 stands resolute on it's triangle of ground. Toronto's Old and New City Hall Historic Landmark art prints are among the illustrations that Canadian Artist David Crighton is best known for. David's cool art online captures the heart of the communities he creates as he pulls together famous local and historical landmarks that bring the best of the urban landscapes he is creating into focus. History: Nathan Phillips Square is an urban plaza that forms the forecourt to Toronto City Hall, or New City Hall, at the intersection of Queen Street West and Bay Street, and named for Nathan Phillips, mayor of Toronto from 1955 to 1962. The square opened in 1965, and, as with the City Hall, the square was designed by architect Viljo Revell. St. James Anglican Cathedral, Toronto by David Crighton

    $125.00

Cathedral Church of St. James in Toronto, Ontario, Canada is the home of the oldest congregation in the city. The parish was established in 1797. The Cathedral, with construction beginning in 1850 and opening for services on 19 June 1853, was one of the largest buildings in the city at the time. It was designed by Frederick William Cumberland and is a prime example of Gothic Revival architecture.
The church is designated under the Ontario Heritage Act and is the episcopal seat of the Anglican Church of Canada's Diocese of Toronto.

Crightonism: My father, Ross Crighton was an Anglican minister and as such this Cathedral was "Head Office" in Ontario where he was ordained and performed his religious mission. He would be very happy to see this artwork and probably expect a free print :)... I'd love to be able to put one in his hand but he'd gone to his reward. God Bless you Dad.

Flatiron Mural, Toronto by David Crighton

    $125.00

THE FACTS: TheGooderham Building is an historic landmark of Toronto, Ontario, Canada located at 49 Wellington Street East. On the eastern edge of the city's Financial District (east of Yonge Street), it is in the St. Lawrenceneighbourhood wedged between Front Street and Wellington Street, where they join up to form a triangular intersection.
